Is Summer really on it's way let's hope sunshine is on the way!!! We are investigating magnets this month. We will explore their features and properties and carry out a number of experiments to test and demonstrate these properties.

Chris Hadfield the Canadian commander of the International Space Centre has posted some amazing videos about life in space. He returned to Earth on the 14th May. He has become a bit of a celebrity. He even tweeted as Gaeilge!!

 
A new term and so many challenges and projects to look forward to.
We would like to congratulate Niall Kenny on his recent win in the INTO handwriting competition well done Niall.
Please take a look at our projects page. There are several fantastic powerpoint projects dealing with subjects such as Oceans, Vikings and Sheep dogs. Well done everyone. These students earned a huge number of points towards homework off vouchers.

The green flag focus this month is on our feathered friends. Did you know that feathers are what makes birds unique to any other creature. Take a look at the websites below to learn more.
Last month we learned a song called An Draíodóir from a great collection called D'aon Ghuth 3. This month we are learning another song called Séimí An Siúinéir from the same collection. 

We learned how difficult life was for children during the 
Industrial Revolution, We complain about school but they had to work very long hours from the age of five. 

We also learned about the story of the Native Americans. We learned about their way of life and culture. They showed a great respect for nature.

It is hard to believe that March has arrived and Spring is really underway. Well done to everyone who took part in the peace proms.

We have just completed our Sheep pig books. They are a summary of the novel a simplified version containing the main parts of the story. We plan to read these with Ms Norton's 1st class. We also illustrated the books. We will include photos and videos soon.

We are learning poems and songs and we are practising our Irish dancing for the Céilí móir.

This month we will investigate planet earth. We will learn about what goes on underneath the crust. We will also learn about our atmosphere.

 As mentioned above we created our own summary of the novel the Sheep Pig. On world Book Day 7th March we invited Ms Nortons class to read our books with us. We used our comprehension strategies. We predicted after each page and we made connections. We tried to visualise the story and compared the films we made in our heads. Both classes really enjoyed the afternoon. Hopefully this is the first of many shared reading experiences. 

We are learning about 3d shapes and symmetry.

We have created a song for the Comenius project. We were given the theme of health and fitness. The song we had to write new lyrics for is Gangnam style. We really enjoyed this project have a look at the video that we submitted on our video page.

The Peace proms concert will take place on Sat March 2nd. We will attend a workshop with the conductor of the Cross Border Orchestra on Thursday 7th of February to prepare for the concert. Check out the Cross Border website below.

We are hoping to create a family tree so please start to investigate and gather information. We will post pictures of the finished products in due course.

Our lighthouses are on display in the foyer please check them out. They are all so unique and made from so many different recycled products.

We are learning about inventors and will focus on Alexander Graham Bell. We plan to make our own telephones

A new year has dawned. Hopefully we are all re energised after our holidays and ready to face new challenges ahead.
We will start the year learning about time  digital and analogue and solving time problems. Click the button below to practise your skills.

This month we will learn about he Vikings why and how and when they reached our shores. We will discover how they changed our ways and landscape.

We will learn about electricity. We will discover the important elements of a circuit and build our own circuits experimenting with powersources and switches.


We are planning a project this month to construct a lighthouse. We are hoping to do so using recycled materials. We had a look at Ms Doheny's class lighthouses. We asked them questions regarding their strategies and methods. We are looking forward to showing them our creations at the end of the month.
We will take part in the Prom concert on March 2nd. A selection of the songs are below.

We are learning about headlands what they are their names and where they are situated. We will also learn about rocks the main types and their characteristics. See the youtube video below to learn about rocks.
 
Christmas is just around the corner now and we are nearly as busy as the elves! The Christmas play is slowly coming together still plenty to do. Our Christmas art is well under way. Our wreaths are hanging. Our sleighs with true Christmas gifts have been painted and are on display.

We will try to remember the true message of Christmas and what and why we are celebrating.

We will learn about an chéad Nollaig. We also have a new poem as Gaeilge about a spás fhirín.
We will write a story  "If I could make one wish come true this Christmas.......". We will create two Christmas shopping lists. One relating to the commercial Christmas and one relating to what is truely important. We will learn about the Arctic. The animals and people that live there and how they adapt to the extreme conditions.

The end of the year is approaching fast! We have so much work to do this month. We are starting to prepare our Christmas play and have songs to learn see the links to you tube below. We will also start the process of making props for our play. We will finish the weaving project which is a surprise present for someone this Christmas.

We will learn about 2d shapes, lines and angles this month. Click on the button below to link to a website we will be using.

We will learn about Fionn and the salmon of knowledge. We will also investigate sunlight and it's importance and carry out some experiments to create shadows.

 
We are looking forward to another very busy month. We will celebrate National Tree day on October 11th with a trip to the Castle Park.

We will be learning about Ireland in the past and why it was known as the Land of Saints and Scholars.

We will learn about weather. What it is and how we measure and record it.

We are hoping to begin our first novel War Game.

Welcome back to school. Please God we will have a safe, happy and productive year. Our motto for the year will be to treat others as we would like to be treated. Sounds easy but we all know how difficult it is to get it right. We will create our own class shield which will display this motto and the key principles we will adhere to to ensure that we achieve this.
